1/43 320 Turbo Würth Rodenstock 3° Div.2 DRM Nürburgring 1979 – Manfred Winkelhock
Schnitzer’s new low line Group 5 development of the 320 Turbo made its debut in practice for the Zolder race, round 9 of the German Rennsport Meisterschaft Division 2 of 1979. Team and driver felt the new car difficult to adjust and Manfred Winkelhock switched to the old car for the race. Round 10 at Hockenheim was the first race of the yellow 320 Turbo and a 5th place was promising for the last race.
The final round of the 1979 championship was held at the short concrete circuit of the Nürburgring but although the Schnitzer Team had solved most of the teething trouble of the spectacular 430 hp Turbo car, Zakspeed’s Ford Capri Turbo remained the predominant Division 2 car of that year. Still Manfred Winkelhock achieved a first podium behind the Zakspeed Capri of Hans Heyer and Harald Ertl.
