1/43 2002 Koepchen Tuning Solex ADAC 500km Nürburgring 1971 – Hans Joachim Stuck
The wild and crazy years
Young German Hans Joachim Stuck had hit the touring car scene in 1969 and was offered a first full season by Hans Peter Koepchen for 1970 in one of his legendary 2002. Only one year later Stuck had become BMW works driver despite his spectacular driving style. The mechanics told the tales that there were hardly any flies on the windscreen but a lot on the side windows. While Stuck raced for BMW with Alpina most of the 1971 ETCC season he rejoined Koepchen for this non-championship touring car race at the Nürburgring in September.
The International ADAC 500 km Eifelpokal race was initially round 6 of the European 2-Litre Sportscar Championship for Makes but the organizers had decided to fill up the grid of 42 sports prototypes with GT and touring cars as a race in the race on the long Nordschleife track. On September 5th spectators thus enjoyed a wild and crazy grid of 83 racing cars in the Green Hell. The overall race was won by Vic Elford in a Lola T212 while Hans Joachim Stuck finished 8th in the 2-litre touring car class behind his team mate Hans Heyer.
